ROGER VIVER Spring Summer 2024 “VIV’ CANARD”

In Gherardo Felloni’s capable hands, the archives of Maison Vivier constantly come to life. The Viv’ Canard shoe plays a starring role this time, as the result of an artistic equation in which the contemporary flair of Roger Vivier’s creative director has met the visionary and pioneering imagination of the Maison’s founder, with the highest quality craftsmanship as a constant. The shoe designed for Spring Summer 2024 is not a re-edition but a reinterpretation of the original model and is destined to become a timeless trend that will define the brand’s codes.

Inspired by the beak of a duck, it is the shape of the tip of the shoe that gives the Viv’ Canard its character. It also inspired its name - ‘canard’ in French, ‘duck’ in English - as well as its geometric and gently angular design. Available in different versions, it remains recognisable thanks to the tapered silhouette of the toe contrasting with the squarer lines of the back of the shoe. Created in the 1950s by Monsieur Roger Vivier and rediscovered thanks to careful research into the history of the Maison, it returns in a modern version, modified in its details and style thanks to the study and creative work of Gherardo Felloni. The first models created, of which some are preserved in the archives of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, were presented from the outset in different versions, often finely embroidered, and were characterised by clean-cut profiles and a square shape at the front, sometimes even with a sort of protrusion along the middle that gave the tip a three-dimensional detail. The new Viv’ Canard, on the other hand, is characterised by a graceful and less rational design, more sinuous and elongated than in the models of the past.

In satin, patent leather, or covered in sequins, with a cut-out created thanks to a strap on the instep, with the particularity of the iconic square buckles studded with rhinestones or, finally, with a trail of crystals descending from the ankle to the tip of the shoe, for day or evening, the Viv’ Canard shoes are designed to describe every facet of femininity. Presented in a kitten heel version for the Spring Summer 2024 season, with a low, comfortable heel, they open up creative paths with no preclusions for the future, with a decorative divertissement that defines Gherardo Felloni’s style and makes them part of Roger Vivier’s contemporary heritage.
