Omar Hamada.. The Master of Spinning

Omar Hamada Is a Kuwaiti Entrepreneur, who describes himself as a “multidisciplinary  entrepreneur and creative who has built his career around the  foundation of health and wellness” his works both professional and  commercial, often recite themes of the same central question: “How can  I live better then, use that growth to help others around me”

1. When did you realize your passion for fitness, health and wellness?  And what motivated you to do it professionally?

That’s an interesting question. To be honest, I realized my passion for fitness, and health and wellness much later in my life. I would say when I was 24--- that’s when I realized what felt like my “true purpose”.  But since I was a kid I was always outdoors and  involved in any active activity that I had the time and ability to get to. Soccer, basketball, baseball, hockey, and anything else that was going in the neighborhood.

Finding that “true purpose” is what motivated me to do it professionally. I was extremely unhappy at my first job out of college. It was corporate style. Check in at 7:30 am and rush out the office at 3:27 if you could. I quickly realized that it wasn’t for me which was a blessing in disguise because it forced me to consciously think about what I really wanted to do and how I could strengthen my existence by aligning my life towards that desire.

2. What inspired you to teach spin?

Being able to share my music was definitely the first thing. From there it has snowballed into so much more than that. The people I get to see everyday, the beauty that can be created in just a 45 minute class, the breakthroughs, the growth, the struggles, the opportunities, finding my voice, helping others find theirs, the feelings, bringing crazy ideas to life, the teamwork… I could honestly go on for days. Inspiration keeps popping up everywhere. Every day.

3. Success never comes easy, what challenges did you have to overcome along the way?

No it doesn’t. Big facts. Success always doesn’t feel that great either, that’s why it’s important to know what you’re about so that you can really enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Anyhow, there have been so many challenges and it's never ending to be honest. The typical ones when going off the beaten path are failure, loneliness, and fear. At the moment, it’s the current state of the world and everything that is bringing. For me, the MOST challenging has been managing my energy and body.

Teaching cycling classes at a certain performance level can exhaust a type of physical and psychological energy at a level that is very hard to explain. But long story short, when you give so much to the craft in each class, it makes it quite difficult to figure out how to manage/source all the other energy needed in your daily life to maintain your happiness outside of a class. That could be for relationships, family, other passion projects, etc. It’s been a crossword puzzle but we getting there.

Studying stoicism and asking for help has helped a lot with this psychologically. Physically, daily yoga, stretching, and proper strength training at least 3 times a week.

4. I always have fun riding with you, can you share a funny spin story  with our readers?

Haha likewise! Definitely anything Hassan Rawas has ever said in a class. If that’s not detailed enough, there’s only one way to figure out what I’m talking about :)

5. What does a typical day look like for Omar?

I like to start the day with something that grounds me. Something that serves as my anchor so that I can continue the day inspired. That’s usually some reading, yoga, or a morning workout.

After that, in terms of what I do for a living, it completely changes depending on the day of the week. Yes, I’m teaching cycling classes but with trying to build a successful company I am also often wearing a lot of hats trying to figure out things that are completely new to me. But that’s what it’s all about right? No labels, no boundaries, and non-linear growth.

6. If you were not into health & wellness, what would you be doing?

Following inspiration and expressing myself accordingly.

7. What's your favorite way to splurge?

Booking Airbnb’s ! I love the whole process behind choosing Airbnb’s. It’s so much fun and exciting once you arrive at the spot. It really does add another layer to travel that enhances the whole experience and memories that remain afterwards.

Second place is books. I’ll spend whatever on books because I consider those healthy investments.

8. In your opinion is Spinning/cycling a Kuwaiti trend? Or is it a way of  life that is here to stay?

I think it’s a mixture of both. Spinning here is very trendy amongst some people and due to the trends in customer behavior for this specific group I believe that it always will be. They tend to circulate in and out of classes based on particular seasons or events that are taking place.

For the other group of people, it’s definitely here to stay. It seems that what we have created has solved the problem of a consistent commitment to exercise, feeling of togetherness, and an experience that leaves them feeling way better as soon as they walk out the door. This group is gaining more power over time, therefore, making our business more valuable as more people commit to engaging with us. It’s beautiful really. These are the people creating and driving the energy of our business forward. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.

9. After conquering the world of cycle, what is your next move?

I have so many things that I’d like to do. So many ideas that I would like to bring to life. I suppose it would just be a matter of continuing to move forward with the same attitude. Viewing my life as an ever growing work of art and committing myself to the same level of self -expression and authenticity that I am now. With that alone, I would still be making beauty and I would still be sharing my best energy for the world. That’s all I can hope for really.

Thank you Omar.
