About Designed by Hind

Crafted from porcelain, each Designed by Hind collection celebrates the best of UAE handicrafts. Conceived with the aim of repositioning customary ancestral past times within a modern and forward-looking context, Sheikha Hind bint Majid Al Qasimi’s brand Designed by Hind fuses traditional Emirati elements with contemporary designs to create heritage inspired works for the 21st century.

Among Designed by Hind’s collections are ‘Sarood,’ a contemporary take on the braided palm hair mat that was traditionally used in Oriental culture for meal time gatherings. The work of art was developed with palm matting acting as the initial cast for the mould, from which each delicate ceramic ‘sarood,’ or plate was created. Using this methodology ensured that the imprints of the original handmade weave patterns and slight imperfections were still central to the design. Also Designed by Hind recently created ‘Nabata’ collection, inspired by the mountain flowers endemic to UAE.

Designed by Hind ensures the continuation of the traditional elegant UAE craftsmanship and with this, the pioneering "Tumenah" collection was created. Inspired by a celebration of ancient times, at the end of the recitation of the Holy Quran during Ramadan for the boys and girls they wore traditional jewelry and they would go around the houses to recite verses from the Holy Quran where they are rewarded with money and sweets.
